PUTTING DRILLS

Gate Drill

Ladder Drill

Ladder Drill

  1. Place two tees slightly wider than your putter head, about 12 inches in front of the ball.
  2. Practice hitting putts through the gate created by the tees without touching them.
  3. Focus on a smooth stroke and maintaining a square clubface.
  4. Gradually increase the distance of your putts while continuing to aim through the gate.

Ladder Drill

Ladder Drill

Ladder Drill

  1. Set up a series of putts at different distances (e.g., 3, 6, 9, and 12 feet) from the hole.
  2. Start with the shortest putt and make it. Move back to the next distance and repeat.
  3. If you miss a putt, start over. This builds confidence and consistency.

Up and Down Challenge

Up and Down Challenge

Up and Down Challenge

  1. Select different locations around the practice green where you’ll need to chip onto the green and then putt out.
  2. From each spot, chip the ball onto the green and try to make the putt in 2 strokes or less.
  3. If you can get up and down consistently, try tougher locations or different lies (e.g., from the rough, a downhill slope, or a bunker).
  4. Track your success rate and work to improve over time.

Circle Drill

Up and Down Challenge

Up and Down Challenge

  1. Place 6 to 8 golf balls in a circle around the hole, each ball about 3 feet from the cup.
  2. Starting with any ball, putt toward the hole.
  3. Continue putting each ball into the hole, focusing on making each putt.
  4. If you miss, restart the drill from the beginning.
  5. As you get better, increase the distance of the circle to 4 or 5 feet

You've Got This

In golf, the old saying “drive for show, putt for dough” couldn’t be more accurate.  Putting better comes down to consistent practice, solid fundamentals, and a strong mental approach. By incorporating these tips and drills into your routine, you’ll start to see noticeable improvements in your putting performance—and your scores. So grab your putter, head to the green, and start sinking more putts!

If the three putts persist, it may be time for a putting lesson with Swing Envy.
